ChemToolBox, the Swiss army knife of the lab worker, is a freeware which contains numerous scientific data very useful in a laboratory.
Features: ChemToolBox has several tools needed by lab workers. It contains properties of solvents, Chemistry of solutions, Periodic table of elements, Biochemistry, Spectroscopy, Calculations and units. This tool box is addressed to a broad audience that includes students, PhDs or even senior scientists. It can provide most data that you would have needed several handbooks for and searched on-line databases. Areas it can provide help with include organic chemistry (properties of solvents, miscibility and polarity, cooling mixtures), solution chemistry (acid/base and RedOx couples, colored indicators, complexes, salts, fluorochroms), spectroscopy (1H and 13C NMR) or polymer chemistry), biochemistry (amino acids, nitrogen bases, carbohydrates, fatty acids, SDS-PAGE), etc. It has calculation and units conversion tool that can use scientific constants. The units used are the SI system.
Data can be exported in HTML. In addition to the choice of the display settings in HTML, ChemToolBox allows default and optional data to be exported. Export of optional data can be performed by ticking associated boxes and by clicking on OK to validate the choice. Some customization is possible that include Minimize the application in the SysTray: this option allows to let the application be active in the SysTray by displaying the ChemToolBox icon. Activate the SysTray balloon tip allows an information window to be displayed when ChemToolBox is minimized in the SysTray. Style of menus can be changed to the theme of Windows Vista, XP, Office 2007, etc.
Overall: Very extensive database that is handy in day to day work and with clean interface, this is a really good piece of work.
